Walking By

November 15, 2008

Though the weather here has turned a bit we’re still getting the odd bit of rain reprieve, not that I’m complaining because better rain than snow! Still it’s nice to get a clear day as I’m doing a lot more walking lately. Not only is it good exercise that I BADLY need, but also a chance to clear my head and get some semi-fresh air, semi-fresh as it IS sidewalks I’m on.

Today was perfect for just that.

I took off just before Tom got ready to head to work and did 3.5 miles according to Google maps. Not bad I guess. Years ago I would walk practically clear across Burnaby along a walk/bike path with my Ex-step-Mother-in-law. We started walking from Edmond’s St  to Royal Oak and back and ended up working our way up to Edmond’s to Boundary and back in the same amount of time so my walk today seemed kind of lame by comparison. Still, better than being a couch potato all day.

I took the camera along and grabbed a couple of shots. The poor kite is still stuck in the tree.

Still stuck in the kite eating tree

The sky was pretty nifty though, there were breaks of blue with these splotchy humpy clouds. Further North the sky seemed a bit more ominous but it stayed decent for my walk.

love this sky

Most of the leaves are down now. Autumn seems so lame in this part of the Vancouver area, we don’t seem to get those nice bursts of colour that I remember as a kid. It seems like the leaves turn one colour then fall off. Meh.

Raindrops on gutter leaves kinds of makes them pretty though. This guy stood out cos he retained a bit of colour amongst his rusty brown brethren.

leafy drops

Seems he was laid to waste before he got to turn another colour but for a few spots.

A few brave flowers and buds(!) were hanging on. No idea what kind of flower but it means business if it is still hanging around with the chill in the air.

I’m off work this week and I plan on doing a lot of NOT THINKING which is good because I was starting to hear a busy signal in my brain. I’m hoping to get a start on the Xmas shopping this week, if not do it all (hah!) but other than that no big plans which at this moment sounds like complete and total heaven.

All About Me

November 10, 2008

I’ve been geekin’ around the internet for close to 11 years now, admittedly a drop in the bucket compared to some, including my better half.

In fact, back in ‘99 I met Tom in a chat room, how geeky is that? Not wookin’ pa nub or anything, we were friends for a good two years before anything slightly romantical developed.  Still, the power of the internets and all that, it wasn’t likely we would ever meet any other way, yet were perfect for each other, go figure.

Anyway, I don’t chat anymore, haven’t in years but still keep in touch with a few who became good friends in RL (real life in case y’all don’t know) but that doesn’t mean I still don’t geek out in other ways.

Blogging, Flickr, Twitter, Friendfeed, Etsy..yeah, list goes on. Where I can I grab my user name as I kind of think of it as me and get kind of pissy when someone else already scooped it up before I got there.

When I heard about the site usernamecheck.com I was intrigued and had to check it out. When I saw that my fave user name was available on a number of these sites my first instinct was to jump on them and sign up everywhere, but then I smartened the hell up. Um, yeah most of these sites I will never use, but it did clue me into a few others that I didn’t know about yet and so I snagged the ones I wanted that were still available and learned to let go of the rest.

But if you’re like me and you have a fave user name it’s worth a look-see, you may even discover a few new time-wasters.

Funny Honey

This has got to be one of the funniest “Photoshops” that Tom has done so far..

A rock band starring Cinny AS the entire band.

Fix Me

November 8, 2008

Despite my continuing devotion to scripted television, lately I’ve found myself enamored with the whole “improvement” genre of reality television. While the personal type improvement is fun (see Biggest Loser and How to look good naked), I’m really into the whole home renovation thing.

I have NO idea what I would do without the HGTV network.

There are shows were people are trying to flip houses (a type of show that may not go over so well in today’s economy), attempt to reno with zero handyman skillz, been ripped off by contractors and have Mike Holmes swoop in for the rescue and my latest discovery “Love it or List it”.

We live in a condo that could certainly use some upgrading and really,  just some basic maintenance (hello ceiling fan in bathroom that doesn’t work, master shower that could use caulking and temperamental gas fireplace on-switch) but it is so much easier watching OTHER people do it.  Dude, we are so gonna hire someone to fix most of our shit.

I wish I WAS more handy though. I am actually quite good with tools as far as building goes, I’m a girl that can swing a hammer. In fact, I built my own fort as a kid complete with framed walls and a working hinged door thank you very much, but anything electrical just freaks me the hell out.

Tom is pretty good with electrical stuff, he installed a ceiling fan at our old place and set up and hard-wired in the dishwasher (though plumbing isn’t necessarily his forte.) I just can’t DEAL with him doing it. I end up with this weird clicking in my ears when someone I care about touching electricity. Or I see spiders.

We just never even seem to get around to some of the basics. I mean something as simple has framing and hanging a picture? Though I did finally get around to buying a frame for “the fire cracker” it is still leaning up against the wall. I have at least six other pictures (including my Joe Average!) just waiting for a frame, how lame is that? Mind you, my excuse is that I want to build the decor in the living room around a new area rug and I’ve yet to find one that I really like, of course I haven’t been actively SHOPPING for one either. Erm. Ok yes I’m lazy.

So here I sit on a Saturday afternoon, my TV dial on the HGTV network, my feet up on our ever so ugly needing to be replaced coffee table, thinking about vaccuming but not doing it and typing on my laptop. Anyone want to come over and clean and decorate and fix up our place? Anyone?

Featured Kitty at Katie’s Place

November 7, 2008

Here is another cutie at Katie’s Place in Maple Ridge.

A charmer that goes by the name of Vance. I absolutely love the unusual markings on this little fella. He reminds me of a ring tailed lemur or something!

Here is his profile in Petfinder and while you’re at it, check out his video below. If you’re thinking of adding a new furry friend to your household, please consider a rescue cat.
