Pink it’s like red but not quite

November 11, 2007

Years ago I went through this ridiculously girlie stage of needing to not only be surrounded by pink but also florals. I’m talking floral sheets, pictures even down to what I wore..

I think it was a complete 180 from my darker moodier teen years where all I wanted to do was wear black and wear too much eyeliner.

Even after I started to move a little more away from flowers the theme was still very strongly pink. At one point even my furniture was pink.. well more a dusty rose which is basically pink, shit even my WALLS were pink, though truth be told that wasn’t by choice that was just by circumstance and was too much even for me.

I’m a touch more selective in my pink obsession now and I tend to focus more on personal accessories like my laptop (who I’ve named Dita Von Dell), my clothes (of course) a fuzzy blanket here or there and kitchen gadgets. The furniture I’m happy to say lives very much in the neutral zone these days.

Tom and I were drinking our late morning coffee and going through the local paper’s ad inserts and I came across this OMFG how cute is that?? It is nice to know that I’m not the only one who combines their love of pink and love of gadgets all in one pinkalicious package! Yeah I do have a problem… heh.

Last year for Christmas Tom bought me a pink lava lap to go along with the purple one I had for years which will so go in our Mod room some day. After spending several hours mucking out our place together yesterday we turned on the lava lamps and watched the movie Music and Lyrics (which I love) and sipped some wine. There is just something so relaxing and hypnotic about a lava lamp… see even Cinny thinks so.

I have to say though, people by the light of a lava lamp can look quite skeery..

Especially with that look in Tom’s eye!

Peace out!

Pretty in Pink

October 11, 2007

After a long wait my “Flamingo Pink” Dell Inspiron 1521 arrived and she’s lovely! I haven’t named her yet. Yes, I will name her, I name everything. I know, lame. Whatever.

Cinny was right there checking it out when I was unboxing…

Of course the minute the box was empty she claimed said box for her very own. At least until it was time to box it up again for the night. I SO have to get a case for her now. The laptop, not Cinny.

She’s kind of metallic pink, sorta reminiscent of the Pink Razor phones that came out last year. It’s a nice bold pink, not wishy-washy and not too bright thank goodness. Pink! I LOVE pink! I love the fact I can get a laptop in PINK!

All in all it’s a pretty nifty system and I’m a happy camper.

T.G.I.F.

September 8, 2007

I’ve been working from home a lot in the last few months. There are a lot of advantages (one being the commute time!) and productivity soars, well at least in my case as I’m disciplined. But there are a few disadvantages too, the most glaring to me is my hairdresser is all the way downtown and I badly needed a haircut.

I had booked an appointment weeks ago but then got um, a stomach bug and cancelled. It was all good, I mean I could still work but from home nice and close to the facilities but the weeks dragged on and on and my bangs got longer and longer. I eventually tired of them just before my “vacation” (aka looking after Sean post surgery) and did a brutal bathroom hack job so I could at least see. I didn’t want to take too much off in case I got a lecture from my hairdresser for not taking advantage of the free in between bang trims. Who has the time?? It bought me a bit more time though until I could reschedule.

Thank goodness today was the day, see below I’m no longer a sheep dog! Man but I do look like a dork in almost all pictures:

I love Amy, she totally gets my hair and it’s weird textures and tendencies and manages to give me a good cut. I only wish I could style it anywhere close to what they can in a salon, but seriously, even if I could it would only stay for a while, my curls have a mind of their own and living in Vancouver good luck keeping curly hair straight with all the moisture in the air and my hair is seriously curly. Luckily it’s fine not coarse so I do have some options..

In other news Tom and I decided to treat ourselves and buy new laptops! We ordered the new Dell Inspiron 1521’s. Of course I got a PINK one and Tom, well he got black. The estimated shipping dates we’ve been told have been Sept 10th for Tom’s and mine sometime in early October. After we ordered I found this blog from Dell. They are way behind on filling the orders due from what it sounds like to a bunch of things from parts in short supply to unexpected demand. Of course the hard push they had to market these suckers and the halfway decent price-point, I’m surprised they were surprised but whatever..there be some very angry people out there. I feel for the college students and such who ordered in like July and are still waiting, already back in class. I’m impatient sure, but it’s not like we are computer-less. Essentially these are toys. I’m just jealous that Tom will get his first but then again I’m getting PINK!!!! Soooo worth the wait, I so love pink.

Sean is healing amazingly well. There is really no big restrictions on him anymore, although he is going to stay away from anything overly chewy (like steak) but he’s been freed up to eat bacon, and believe me that news was received with joy. It will be like Christmas for him to have bacon for breakfast this weekend. Sean is working on a project to create his own cartoon character to try to sell on T-shirts on Cafepress. Hey you never know. They are pretty darn clever. He knows he will have at least one customer in me.

Chris is still working away but still not doing much about getting into the plumbing apprenticeship thingie. He claims that he has to have his drivers licence to get into it and although he’s been practicing has yet to book his test. Sigh…. We don’t want to be his chauffeurs anymore. Wish he would get on that, you can only nag so much. He’s all excited about a concert he will be attending in a few weeks. Ah youth. I remember when that was a fun and exciting thing to do. Alas now I just hate crowds and frankly if I want to smell someone smoking pot nearby I could just lean out our window at night. I swear there is someone in our complex who’s blazing up the odd fatty. Either that or it’s some kind of ‘herbal’ ciggie that smells an awful like weed.

Tom’s doing his usual thang in tv-land. He shall be home soon and joining me in a late nightcap. He had to pull the late shift tonight which is our official ‘drinkie night’ so I’m waiting impatiently for him to come home so I can have my nice glass of wine. Yay!

Kitchen addiction

August 5, 2007

Sean and I went out for a nice early dinner today to celebrate his success in bringing up his math mark. Both Tom and Chris were working, so it was a nice Mother/Son time for us. He had some trouble with math this year and had to attend summer school to stay on track. As it turned out he did great and even aced the final with an A. Not the best way to spend your summer, summer school and surgery but he positive about it all. He’s really a great kid.

Other than a screaming baby and a guy who used the “F” word as conversation filler on every second word, we had a good time.

Afterwards we went into the nearby drugstore and picked up a few items he needed for his braces and while walking around I found a really sweet Piggie breakfast set for $2.99!!

Piggies!

Isn’t it cute?? PIGGIES!

AND it’s PINK!

Oink

We also went to the local Zellers and bought Sean some new sneakers. He goes through shoes so quickly, not only through growth but also through this weird stinky foot acid he I swear he produces. The boy is 15 and he is now wearing a size 13 MENS shoe. Size 13!! !

We also got him some flip-flops and a pair of sweatpants for the trip home from the hospital. The Doctor advises the less bending the better.

I think provisions-wise we are all set. It will be nice to get this over with.

More pink kitchen stuff

October 1, 2006

Yes, it’s an obsession!

Once again going through Sunday morning flyers and once again Tom pointing out to me more pink things I HAD to go and get them. Yay!

The very cool part is portions of the purchase price are being donated for Breast Cancer research so not only am I feeding my jones for pink things, I’m helping a good cause.

It was great having Tom home all day yesterday, as I’ve mentioned before it’s rare that we get to spend more than a few hours together and we made it a complete veg day. We had a movie marathon where Sean, Tom and I each chose a movie to watch from our existing collection. We closed off the evening with several Arrested Development episodes (season three and bloody crime it was cancelled!) A nice lazy day.

Oops time for Amazing Race!

************After the Show**********

I have now officially picked my favourite team for this Amazing Race season; Erwin and Godwin .

I love how they are in the spirit of the game and are enjoying it, kinda like the Hippies from last season. Very cool.

Coming in a close second are the Bama ladies and the Kentucky couple, I’ve got a soft spot for Southerners.
