The Warmth of the Sun

May 24, 2008

Sean and I took advantage of the loverly weather today and headed for Bear Creek, a local park that I have probably photographed to DEATH. I really need to venture out more. It is just that on a loverly Saturday the roads are filled with a bazillion other people also trying to find a park, lake, garden to hang out in I simply just cannot stand sitting in traffic getting aggravated to find somewhere to relax…you know what I’m sayin’?

The park is reasonably close to get to and usually has parking, at least later in the afternoon. We headed out around 2ish and HOLY COW was that place busy. We had to skip our usual side street parking lot and head for the main one. After circling round for a while with a bunch of other car sharks I finally gave up and headed over to the art gallery side and lucked out on a spot just as I was about to give up. Turns out along with a track meet, soccer game and many MANY family gatherings and water park visitors, there were also several wedding party groups having photos taken and one actual ceremony set up to take place in the little outdoor iron chapel.
An actual wedding was gonna happen at the park wedding chappel Bear Creek Park May 24 2008 034
A very multicultural city reflected in the different weddings going on. I saw one with a South Asian theme all full of gorgeous colour and a couple with the brides in the whole white gown and veil thing.

The day was glorious, the sky was blue and the sun was really warm. I loved the sheer number of plants in bloom everywhere!

Even the weeds are pretty on a sunny day. In the field there were tons of daisies and dandelions just waiting for a photo op.

I really cherish the time I spend with Sean, it is cool that he still will hang out with his old Ma.

Carrying on

May 21, 2008

Judging by the number of hits in the last few days from people searching for the phrase: “Carry a laser down the road that I must travel” it would appear that I am not the only person who pictured something out of star wars. Thank you. Now I don’t feel quite as lame.

Tears of Pearls

May 19, 2008

Hey! Also in the misheard lyrics theme….one of my fave blogs: List of the Day has posted a video with the hilarious translation of a Pearl Jam Song. I was in tears by the end of it cos man, as you read along they all sounded exactly right without actually making any sense at all, as most of my own made up lyrics do.

Enjoy!

Heard em Say

May 18, 2008

I’ve been having fun with the site Grooveshark that Tom hooked me up with. We’ve been using it to listen to streaming music rather than as a download site, but the cool thing is you can find songs that you haven’t heard in YEARS. I did one of those random searches for 80’s music and was having fun listening to songs I had all but forgotten about or was having a hard time finding anywhere else. I was one of those girls in the clubs that wouldn’t have a clue what to request, one of those lame girls that would try to sing parts of a song to the DJ in an attempt to get a favourite song played. My friend Becky however was a music encyclopedia so she would often save face for me and do the actual requesting. When I was stuck doing it myself what would make it difficult at times, is the fact I would totally get the lyrics of a song wrong (See Pulling Muscles for Michelle a song that doesn’t actually exist, by Squeeze). I can almost see the DJ’s eyes rolling up into his head to this day.

So tonight in my random 80’s searching I came across a song by Mr. Mister. No, not Broken Wings, that one I got right. It was the song Kyrie, or rather in my world Carry A. Umm oops.

So here are the lyrics I THOUGHT the singer was singing in the chorus…

Carry a laser down the road that I must travel
Carry a laser through the darkness of the night
Carry a laser where I’m going will you follow
Carry a laser on a highway in the light

Hey it was the 80s lasers were like ummm all the rage with movies about space and stuff. You know, Han Solo “pew pew”.. Cough. Anyone?

Thanks to these here internets I am finally able to find out what the lyrics actually are….

Kyrie Eleison
Down the road that I must travel
Kyrie Eleison
Through the darkness of the night
Kyrie Eleison
Where I’m going will you follow
Kyrie Eleison
On a highway in the light

It is according to Wikipedia, some kind of prayer (Lord have Mercy). Go figure. Like the soulless heathen that I am I kind of wish it really was about lasers.

Mamma Mia

Good news it would seem from Cannes that the new Indy flick doesn’t suck, though from what I’ve read it’s a touch longer than it should be. To be fair that could be said about a lot of movies these days. I don’t want to read too many of the reviews because I’m sure they will contain far too many of the plot points. Of course I don’t live under a rock so I’m bound to hear a few of them here or there but I’m not gonna seek them out. Hopefully we can make it out the theatre to see this one, we live within walking distance of one for pete’s sake. We’ll need to make sure the Boys can go, I’m not sure if both will want to.. Sean is a given I’m pretty sure but Chris is hard to gauge sometimes. Of course we’re not going to be first in line either. I used to be one of those people that stood in line to buy tickets to a movie (see ET and Return of the Jedi) but those days are long in the past!

Today was my Mom’s Mother’s Day. As we are both Mother’s the way we’ve worked it out is I do nothing on the actual Mother’s Day and then she has her turn the following weekend. As she likes to go out to eat it works out better because you cannot get anywhere near a restaurant for brunch on the actual Mother’s Day and she hates crowds. I took her out to eat and stole Chris’ idea and picked her up a digital picture frame. She was fascinated by the technology not having spent much time near a computer never mind digital camera and spent quite a long time watching the various pictures that I loaded on the SD card. She called me later and was asking me questions about where certain ones were taken, a tad hard to do over the phone…;) She had a nice time though and that’s what counts.

Mamma

Unfortunately for me what I ate ended up rampaging through me, I barely made it home in time, but at least there was no pain. I’ve found that it is totally random when my body will or will not accept in food these days, the same as what will set off the attacks. For the most part my diet has been every bland, forsaking everything that I enjoy and eating very little in the way of meat. If I stick to bread, crackers and cereal that type of thing, I don’t seem to have as much trouble. Another thing that so far has been very good to me is Chinese Food. I have no idea why but that just makes me crave it even more than I normally do. Probably because I see it as actual REAL food instead of bread and crackers so its appeal is enhanced. Today was noodles and vegetables and knocking wood everything is digesting as it should. Yay!

It has been a lazy weekend overall, even better it is a long one. Tom has been working nights these last few but he’s off with me tomorrow and starts his own version of a long weekend. It is sooo nice when we actually get days off together.
