It’s a Big Old Goofy World

April 30, 2008

The previous post if nothing else illustrates the often goofy way we approach posing for the camera. When I say we, for the most part I mean Tom. Tom has this ability to pull out the funniest expressions when the moment calls for it (or maybe even when it doesn’t). Most of the times they are planned sometimes they aren’t. Regardless, they amuse me to no end. Of course he always says I’m a good room.

I went through some of our photos and culled a number of them that I particularly love. We love to laugh in our family and I think this really shows it. In the end though, I truly bow to the master.

Back in Christmas of 2006 I gave Tom a camera for Christmas. In the process of playing with the various features far advanced from his last digital camera he was trying to take a self portrait and didn’t realize the camera was in movie mode. Out of this came this classic video that I watch whenever I’m feeling blue. It still brings me to tears. Even thinking of it brings me to tears.  Enjoy.

Long Way from Georgia

April 27, 2008

Well I didn’t get to see much of the gardens AGAIN. I swear I have the worst luck when I got on these trips cos something always comes up. Oh well.

We had a chance our last evening to do a quick run out to the gardens but it would seem that the timing was bad in general, the Azalea season was pretty much over and it seems to be too early to get the full show of spring flowers.

In order to get a few photos we decided to go check out the Ida Cason Callaway memorial chapel. I remember seeing it a few years ago when our host took myself and a co-worker to dinner in Callaway and it was pretty.

Tom saw the sign that pointed in the chappel’s direction and started to drive. He was about 3 minutes along the path when he suddenly burst out “I wonder if this is actually a road? It’s awfully narrow and seems to be getting worse!”

We both looked around and sure enough certain parts of the “road” seemed to be rough and there was no signs anywhere to indicate it was a one-way road, or a road at all for that matter.

Tom starts to worry that perhaps we are on a bike or walking path and someone was gonna jump out at us and yell “What the hell are you idiots doing!?!?!!” He’s picturing trying to back out of the rather twisting route or even worse, finding a place to turn around and finding out the hard was it WAS a road and someone was coming the other way!

We just kept driving (he was sweating and I was laughing) and eventually MUCH to his relief he saw a sign that pointed to a parking lot by the chapel. I was SO bummed I didn’t have my camera out to record this in movie mode cos trust me, it was a lot funnier to see than I can describe.

Here is Tom illustrating the size of the “road” using himself for scale..

The chapel is pretty and a good photo op

The lady in front was like one of those stereo-typical 1980’s southern beauty pageant contestants 20 years later who hasn’t changed either her hairstyle or her make-up, not to mention her addiction to hairspray. I only wish I could have snuck a picture of her closer up without looking too obvious.

Ah but now we are HOME.

It is the best place EVAR. I am really not much of a traveler so the best part of our journey was actually getting home. It didn’t seem like we were ever going to get there once we were in Denver. We got to the gate just about the time they were starting to load the first class people on and once the plane was fully loaded we backed out and then, Nadda.

After a while a flight attendant made an announcement that not only did we have issues with 50 mile and hour gusts of winds (which was preventing more regular take-offs) but that YVR, our home airport had just lost their radar! They wouldn’t take off without knowing if the plane would be able to land on the other end. We’re all sitting the plane worrying about where we would end up and about a half hour later they announced that we were able to start on our way. We were so relieved cos the thought of spending the night in the Denver airport wasn’t exactly appealing free wi-fi or not!

The take-off was certainly choppy. It wasn’t until we had put enough distance between Denver and our plane that the journey smoothed out some. I watched DVR’d Cold Case episodes on the flight which helped to pass the time.

The first day we were pretty tired. We didn’t get home until around 10 our time which put as at 1:00 am Eastern time and we’d been up since 7:00 am Eastern. Factor in the travel and it sure sucks the life out of you. Other than picking up the cats (who were MOST grateful to see us) and the kids coming home we did NOTHING. That has pretty much described the whole weekend for that matter.

Airport

April 24, 2008

Well, here I am in Denver airport again. Yeah so much for blogging from Georgia, no time! I swear by the time we ate and got back I was just too bagged and the rest of the time it was conference or work.

A word of warning to those who don’t know, taking off and landing in the Denver airport is a little bit like riding a bucking bronco. It’s kinda windy here!! My tummy was a roiling a teeny bit but not too badly. It was kind of like a bunch of small drops like a roller coaster. The plane to and from Atlanta/Denver was an ‘express’ type which is pretty small too. Oh well at least that part is behind us now.

It’s been a long day already and we still have the flight home and the drive back to Slurrey to look forward to. I am SO sleeping in tomorrow and I plan on doing nadda, zip, zero… other than picking up the furry kids. Tomorrow is a Chinese food night I think. Something easy!

Well I guess I should be shutting down, we have to start wandering over to our gate, right now I’m sitting on the floor close to an electrical outlet so I could catch up on work.

Ta-ra and talk to you from home.

Rocky Mountain High

April 21, 2008

Ok, not quite. I’m comin’ at ya from the Denver airport courtesy of their free slow ass wi-fi and on Tom’s laptop as there is only one available plug and I don’t want to suck my battery dry while we wait for our connection. :)

The flight from Vancouver was pretty good, just a little bumpy towards the end. Neither of us could get to sleep at a decent hour last night so we are running on a few hours and a nap on the plane. Even *I* slept which is unlike me. I am wearing a hoodie which helped block some of the light and listened to my mp3 player at a reasonable volume (between 9 and 11) heh.

The conference starts at 7:30 tomorrow, or rather breakfast does. I’m thinking I may just come in at the tail end of breakfast cos I have a feeling my ass is gonna be draggin’ big time tomorrow.

It is SO boring at an airport and I usually resort to people watching. I think I’ve seen the most cowboy hats and boots in one place outside of the Cloverdate Rodeo in this airport. I guess it is somewhat cowboy country? I don’t know much about Colorado to be honest. Of course I’m not seeing much of it either in these pleather seats.

I think if Prue and I end up going through this airport next month it won’t be so bad. Concourse B seems to be United’s and even though it is pretty long, it seems like you could make a quick jog through it if necessary as it has those people mover thingies. It’s not like that George Bush airport where we had to RUN and also catch a bus that took us to a mystery gate to a terminal that didn’t list our flight. NICE!

Ouch, the people going to Little Rock have to wait until 4:00 until their flight leaves. Seems a part they need for the plane is delayed.

Can you tell I’m bored? I’m relaying you P.A. announcements from the gate we’re squatting in. The people here look pretty pissy. No tantrums like in that Airline show. They are always entertaining to watch.

Oh yeah at YVR I finally tried one of those Tim Horton’s BELTs. Not bad. I love their bagels. I’m kinda hungry again but it’s probably too soon to eat anything. We’re slowly changing time zones I think it’s after noon here and back home I’m thinking it’s like eleven AM.

Oops, gotta go. Tom’s back!
