Another park, another Sunday

February 27, 2008

When Tom was away Sean and I decided to take advantage of a really gorgeous Sunday and went for a walk in the park.

Near the park entrance there was a fellow who was standing statue still with his arms outstretched. It only took a few moments to realize why when a little bird came darting out of the trees and landed in his outstretched palm. The bird would grab a snack and take off. He laughed and said to me “my arms are getting tired”. Turns out he does this a lot. A man with a lot of patience!

This guy is holding seed and the birds fly right into his hand to eat. You have to view large and squint, but there is a bird in his hand in this picture

You have to click on the picture and look at the large size to see the bird in his hand.

The weather was lovely, so much so that towards the end of the walk I was feeling a bit warm in my light jacket. I love watching the slumbering foliage coming to life all those little buds coming up.

Spring has sprung the grass has riz..

I can’t wait to see the spring flowers finally come out. There wasn’t much in the way of colour to photograph, but there were a few early flowers popping up.

The park still has it’s charms though, flowers or no flowers. I love the layout of the garden area. Wish I had a yard, I would love to be able to landscape it. There is just something to calming about the outdoors, especially for someone who has spent the better part of her life in an apartment.

2 1/2 more hours!

February 25, 2008

Tom called me from Seattle just over an hour ago. He will soon be in the air and heading back to Vancouver. He sounded tired but elated, he had a really great time. All the whirlwind long travel was very worth seeing his family again. I’m glad for him and them but now I’m glad for ME.

Can’t wait until he gets here!

The show

February 24, 2008

Some rambling thoughts from the Oscar show as they happen.

  • LMAO @ the failed political aspirations of Gaydolf Tittler (I heart Jon Stewart)
  • Steve Carrel is so freaking cute!
  • Yay the Oscar announcer pronounced Katherine Heigl’s name right (hire her for the next Emmy show!)
  • The things in the ceiling above the performers look like upsidedown honey pots.
  • That little Italian guy was so cute! “There was something I wanted to say but I forget…”
  • Javier Bardem is hot (see the fact he looks like Denny from Grey’s) and awww he loves his Momma. I have a soft spot for Spanish men (hellooooo Antonio Bandaras)
  • Tilda Swinton has no eyelashes..one word mascara!! I think she truly looked shocked to win.
  • If my opinion counts I think Seth Rogan looks more like Halle Berry
  • Though I was pulling for Julie Christie I was touched by Marion Cotillard’s excitement for her win.
  • LMAO@ Jon for someone pulled ahead in their Oscar pool with a guess (Not me *sigh*)
  • What the hell is wrong with John Travolta’s hair? It looks like it was sprayed on!
  • Cameron Diaz needs Hooked on Phonics (SIN-A-MA-TOG-GRAF-EE)
  • Harrison Ford was slightly more animated than usual but his speech was a bit slurry. Drinking? Age?The effects of living with Calista?
  • Helen Mirren is so cool, she should be on Tom’s cleans up nice list (come on George!)
  • Awww Daniel kissed George! (lucky Daniel!)
  • There are my favourite eyebrows again! Love Martin!!!!
  • Thank God Ethan has his brother to speak for him!
  • Oooooo Denzel is rockin the crome dome

All in all a kind of boring show. One thing I will give it was it was kept short and on track. No more shows that go on until after 10 Pacific time. Jon did pretty good as host. There were a lot of montages.. I wonder if that is because the writers strike went on so long or the well had run dry with all that time off from running?

Red carpet

February 24, 2008

I’ve been watching the E red carpet special with the annoying Ryan Seacrest.

I think the most amusing moment so far has been the way that Gary Busey was trying to inject himself into an interview with Laura Linney and Jennifer Garner. Those two looked so nervous and anxious to escape especially after he leans over and kisses Laura Linney and then after Ryan points out Jennifer he slobbers all over her neck. Where the heck was Ben? Ryan then tries to bring Seth Rogan over and Gary once again tries to get himself on camera and Ryan tells him he will see him later. How the heck did he get an invite? What has he done lately other than a reality show. Even more bizarre how the heck did Miley Cyrus end up at the Oscars?

Man this whole process happens so early these days!

I totally mistook Javier Bardem for Jeffrey Dean Morgan on the red carpet. He cleans up nice without the bizarre hairdo!

Colin Farrell’s mother looks fantastic. I look older than she does. Dayum!

I’m hoping Viggo Mortensen’s growing that raggedy beard for a role cos this would be one of those events you should SHAVE for.

Bring on the show! I’ve got my ballot ready! (I am SO gonna lose this year!)
