I went on a field trip to the station again yesterday. I think the last time I was there was back on Christmas Eve, so sufficient time had passed. I mean it’s fun to go there every now and then but it’s really like putting in another work day without actually working if you know what I mean?
I decided to bake some chocolate chip cookies to take with me and as usual they went over well. One of the reporters said to me “Ah you know the way to TV people’s hearts!” yeah hardly anyone will refuse a cookie (including bankers, trust me. I know.)
This visit was a little more lively than usual as Tom was switching the newscast rather than working in the graphics room (which on the weekends has Tom and the Graphic Artist) and is a lot more quiet. This meant we spent the bulk of the evening in the control room which has a lot more action and a lot of really nice, fun people; some of who are real characters. I had a better view of the newscast too as the studio/newsroom was right behind where I was sitting.

I have to say I really enjoyed myself last night. It reminded me a lot of when I used to visit the station when Tom worked at Telemundo in LA. I loved the people down there even though I couldn’t understand a word of the newscast (it was in Spanish). The crew all spoke English to me and were nothing but gracious and inclusive but being Canadian they were all convinced I also loved hockey.. um, that would be a no. Here I have the benefit of also understanding the newscast. Bonus!
Speaking of Telemundo. Before they moved to their new location in Burbank, they were taking some pictures of the crew at their stations. This is Tom’s classic picture goofing around for the camera.

Just for fun we recreated it last night..

Yeah, ok, we’re dorks.
We hit Denny’s for a quick dinner, then spent the remainder of the dinner break watching TV and drinking some Timmy Ho’s

Tom’s back at work tonight which means we each have four more work days before our vacation. We’ve booked the cats into jail, er, I mean kitty kamp and a hold has been put on our mail this time so we don’t come back to a stuffed mailbox. All we have left to do is, yanno, book the trip! Nothing like last minute huh?
One last crossing of the fingers that the passports come on Monday! Geez this is driving me nuts!

Why in fact there are here:

.. and here:

(Rooftop Garden at my Office)
Yes! The Daffodils have FINALLY graced us with their presence! (I don’t know what the other flowers are other than they are pink…) Daffodils are such happy flowers!
It was kind of sad to watch the daffodils coming up this year. They started poking up through the ground part way (sometime in January I think) when we hit a warm patch and then stopped half in half out of the ground until we got through that last bout of snow a couple of weeks back. But groundhog fear not, maybe I don’t have to wring your mangy little neck for lying about spring coming early. Maybe you spoketh the thruth(eth)!
I am in major vacation countdown mode now (4 more working days and counting!). Of course we still don’t have the passports back which means we are going to have to assume that Plan B (San Fran) is now our Plan A and starting making some hotel reservations and praying for half decent weather. If they come and we still find a last minute deal for SoCal then we go back to original Plan A. Eh, whateverrrr I just want to get the heck outta dodge for a while!
Come ON vacation!

Halle-FREAKIN-luiah the passports are on their way! Or rather, Passport Canada has put the authorization through my credit card so at least I know I didn’t totally eff up the applications and they will get here eventually.. I’ve heard horror stories of small errors or BAD passport photos with a shadow or something that can cause the application to be refused and that would completely SUCK.

Thank God they are not refused for just looking yech…
Whether they make it in time for us to book a last minute flight is another story but we shall play by ear.
This will make it a lot easier on me with the potential business travel in my future. I wanted options… whether we could find a cheaper flight from Vancouver or Seattle to Georgia for instance IF Tom can get the time off to come with me. Yeah, that’s where I go on business for the most part (other than the odd jaunt to Toronto). Small town Georgia but it’s nice and I LOVE the people and this time I will get to visit Callaway Gardens again but I’m staying OUT of the Day Butterfly center.
The last time I went there was a few years ago with a coworker and her trainer (from the course she was taking). I’m sure its meant to be a lovely stroll through an indoor conservatory with all the tropical plants, birds and of course butterflies and all but to me it was a house of horrors. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate bugs?
It started out ok, it was humid and everything but bearable. I think I maybe got a couple of steps in the door when I realized that the butterflies were, you know, actually flying around. They flew over you, by you and in my case AT YOU.
This one lovely blue butterfly made the unfortunate decision to dive bomb my head. It was his last. I started screaming, flapping my arms and running blindly OUT of the butterfly center. Turns out my arm flapping had kind of, well accidentally shortened the already short life of said butterfly. So yeah, I’m not going back. I’m sure my picture is up somewhere.
We have some Georgians coming up in the next couple of weeks as well which is always a riot. I’m such a sponge that I pick up the accent and start talking like them a little. I swear if we end up somewhere in the South some day, give me a week and you wouldn’t even know I wasn’t born there. I love accents!

A new toy

Tom twisted my arm really HARD (okay to be honest it didn’t take much twisting) when he saw an advert for this camera. He said with vacation coming up and all those photo ops we are bound to have that I needed a better camera.
Oh my GOD I LOVE LOVE LOVE this camera. So many more things to figure out how to use. I was an SLR gal for years so I don’t know from buttons, but I will get it eventually. Maybe if I read the manual (what a concept!) instead of what I usually do. Shoot I was still discovering how to use some things on my old camera. Who am I kidding? For a smart cookie I can be really dumb sometimes.
Two more weeks and we are on the road and our passports are still not back (two months it has been!) I’m thinking it’s for sure Plan B (road trip) but it’s all good. Like I said before, it’s the time with the family no matter where that is important. I can always visit Mickey Mouse some other time right?
