15/24 ain’t bad

February 26, 2007

The tv station had an Oscar pool again this year and I came in tied at second with 15 out of 24 of the categories correct. First place was only 16/24 right in this year of surprises so not too shabby!

I have to admit though, in some of the technical categories I did the equivalent of closing my eyes and pointing to pick a winner and dammit Eddy, you let me down!

I also have to say I still heart Meryl Streep the most even though I didn’t pick her to win (it was the Helen Mirren sweep year, she just had to know that) and I’m over the moon at Martin Scorsese’s win. He has the best eyebrows in the business (Eugene Levy’s run a close second).

What’s in your bag?

February 25, 2007

There is a group on flickr called ‘What’s in your Bag’. I found looking through the pool of photos quite fascinating for some reason. Handbags contents can be an interesting reflection of the person who carries them around. My purse has been scarily neat lately, mostly because the bulk of my shite is contained in my laptop bag, including many receipts, gum wrappers and probably a few bits of loose tobacco (yeah bad habit I know, blah blah).

Not being a real joiner I haven’t really participated in any group on flickr where I hadn’t already take a picture that fit the group but for this one (and my favourite group in flickrland EVAR Stick figures in Peril) I’ve made an exception to that rule.

My Bag

The idea is, you spill your bag out, arrange the contents and then add notes to them. The original photo with my notes is here .

Vacation countdown

February 21, 2007

Wow.

What a couple of weeks it’s been. Long days and bizzy bizzy bizzy.

Ever have those times where you put everything you have into your work so much so that when you get home even trying to articulate a thought is a chore? Seriously. It’s getting so bad after hours that someone around here can ask me a question and my brain processes the information slooooowwwwly. Kind of like those progress bars on a browser when it’s trying to connect to a web page with heavy traffic.

I’m tired.

What is keeping me going is remembering I DO have vacation coming up in a few weeks (yay!) and even though it’s ‘only’ a couple of days more than a week, it’s a week (+) that I can just UNPLUG. Literally. No electronic umbilical cords. No compulsive email checking to keep in the loop. No workaholism. Even if I don’t bring my laptop home, it’s way too easy for me to just walk over to my home PC and check my work email when I vacation in le club slurrey. It’s MY problem. It’s not like I have to, I feel compelled to.

Must have something to do with being a type ‘A’, that and the OCD tendencies ;) . Really, getting out of dodge couldn’t come at a better time. Of course it isn’t exactly a ‘relaxy’ type vacation at say a beach or something but it’s time with my family and that is always great.

Hopefully Tom and I will have a chance to do another get-away just the two of us, somewhere this summer. Even if it’s just back to the Interior again. That was awesome last time. Belinda + Hubby + Wine + good food + better hotel than last time = fun.

Plus ya never know. If we don’t plan anything we could always check on those last-minute type impulsive specials and end up somewhere we’ve never been before just to say we have. I’ve been so rock-steady all of my life it’s time to start embracing some impulsive.

Sunday walkabout

February 18, 2007

The sun kind of  peeked out for a while today so Sean and I took advantage and went out for a brief photo walk around the neighbourhood.

It was a wee bit chilly. Both of us had frozen hands by the time we made our way back home.

It gave us the energy to get to cleaning the condo though, otherwise, both of us would have sat on our butts the whole day. As it is, it’s looking goooood. Or rather it will for the next oh…half hour or so. Hurricane Chris will walk in and empty his pockets on the table I just cleared off and then scatter crap all over the bathroom Sean just cleaned. Why oh why do we bother?
