Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Just about 11 months ago Sean started his braces adventure with the spacers, the palatial expander and then a month and a half ago, the braces themselves.

Day one (Feb 2006) Before palatial expander

'Before' This is starting point

December 28th 2006. Oh my God look how much it’s changed in such a short time!

The progress has been nothing short of amazing so far. Sean’s Orthodontist said to me the day the braces went on “this will change his life” and she is so right. When she told me that by early in the new year Sean’s teeth would be pretty much straight I was blown away, I thought how could that be? Now I see how far he’s come in the last month and a half, yeah, now I believe it.

His journey is far from over, he still has to wear the braces up until he has the surgery to move his jaw sometime in the next year, then it’s maybe more braces and/or just the retainer, not to sure on that yet.

We both figure documenting this will be good for us to look back on and also to help out anyone who’s about to go through this themselves. We did research on the net and found other people’s stories, so maybe his story will ease the minds of another family somewhere out there.

    Wow, that’s great!
My brother went through the jaw realignment surgery years ago. I remember he was wired up for about 4-6 weeks and could only drink out of a straw. Chocolate shakes became a daily staple.
I need a ton of dental work, but I’m so phobic of dentists I don’t even want to start!

The surgeon was saying they don’t ‘wire ya up’ any more there are some bands or something for a few days and probably other stuff and I’m sure a soft diet for quite some time. Regardless it’s not going to be a fun time but worth it in the end. I’m with you I HATE going to the dentist. Sean used to be terrified but now he’s such a trooper.

WOW!!!!!!!!! What an incredible difference. I see that your turning time was much shorter than ours is. How often did you turn the expander? We turn once a week.

We did a quarter turn i’m pretty sure on a daily basis but it was only for a while then he just wore the expander for the full six months so the pallet could fix it’s new position. There is even a bigger change now he’s had the orthognathic surgery, he has a new profile and he’s really happy with it. Braces for 6-12 more months, then retainer yay!
