Sean’s adventure in braces mid point for the palatial expander

Sean’s adventure in braces, or at least all the stuff leading UP to the braces is going really well. He’s had the torture device, er I mean expander on since February so he’s pretty much at the half way point now. We went to the Orthodontist’s office yesterday and she was really happy with the progress. The expander was a roaring success and she’s happy with the room it opened up on top, so as a result we don’t have to go back to twisting that thing (yay for both of us!)

The changes he went through during this period were quite dramatic and I’ve been taking care to document it with photos (although not always the clearest ones!) so we can look back and see the whole process and the over all change that will take place.

A couple of weeks into the process, notice the gap starting to form (March 1st 2006)

Whoah that gap’s a’openin up! (March 16th 2006) realize, this is the roof of his mouth that’s spreading out!!

Gap slooowly closing. Actually it went faster than we expected. The two front teeth naturally pull together which is cool. This allows spaces to form on the other sides and allow the teeth room to spread out and move forward. (April 22 2006)

Taken yesterday, see the spaces have allowed those ‘hiding’ teeth to come forward a bit.

He gets the appliance off late August, and gets some teeth pulled to make even more room. The braces are expected to go on in late September, early October. He gets some reprieve and plans on making himself sick on ever single forbidden food there is!
