Dinner with the girls - Dessert of Hubby *grin*

September 30, 2005

Had a nice time with my pals from work. It’s a crew that I’ve been dining with since 1997 when we started the Centre up. We used to do it regularly, every payday Friday but it’s a lot harder now because not all of us are in the same office anymore and so many of us have a hard time finding the time any more. It was a perfect time to talk, laugh and de-stress away the weeks. We used to his the same Chinese restaurant but now we mix it up a bit. That place is downtown and we all live in the same ‘Burb so it’s easier now to have our meets closer to home. They are all such a fun group.

I also found out my old work-mate Brian who retired in 2000 is working close by and had thought I had moved to the States. He knew I had married an American but we’d lost touch. I think he forgot I had asked him about the process when his Son married a US Citizens and had moved here. I absolutely LOVE him and I’ve missed him a bunch. I was his sidekick in the Systems Dept and when he retired I took his position. He retired a few years past the typical age of retirement but he continues to work on his terms I guess. I think it’s cool he’s out and about still. He looked AWESOME the last time I saw him. No where near his age. He’s always been the coolest guy. I would have loved him to be my Dad. I think his Sons and Daughters in Law are the luckiest ever.

Tom’s home tonight so we are going to kick back and have a nice relaxy evening, watch some tube and snuggle…. *wink*

Nutmeg strung out on the ‘nip

Last night as I was tidying up after dinner I saw this old package of catnip on the shelf in the kitchen. I didn’t know if it still had any potency, but for fun I stuck some in the end of an old sock.

As you can plainly see it was plenty potent. Nutmeg was showing it the love for a while, that is until Miss Cinny decided it was HER turn…

It’s like Kitty Coke, Cinny felt so powerful she could master walking on two legs…

Then there was Tom, not wishing to miss out on all the fun (haha)…

*snnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiiifffffffff*

They’ve all been packed off to rehab.

It was indeed hilarious to watch them play with the sock until they bored of it and they went looking for something else to do. Mostly be annoying, ok maybe just Cinny.

The funniest was Tom thinking he was taking video (with my digital camera) of the cats all strung out on kitty junk, when in fact he had it on the wrong setting. To his defense which he reminded me, he isn’t familiar with all the ins and outs of the cam, but I was laughing really hard when I saw the blurry pictures which were the result (no flash and all wibbly).

Well, one more day left this week hoo-eefin-ray! As I mentioned before I’ve been feeling extra draggy all week and I’m looking forward to having some time to just flake off for a while. Well that is after I buy Mom’s groceries. Chris has his first day on the job Saturday, so I’m sure I will be playing driver duty to pick him up as I’m pretty sure it will be starting to get darkish by then. It’s getting so gloomy so early these days. I miss the sun setting at 10:00 pm in the Summer.

Just noticed the time, Tom should be on his way home by now. It’s just the two of us tonight so we are doing our weirdo hot/spicey chili and alfredo noodle combo supper. They are YUM together despite how icky it may sound. It was one of those fortunate accidents when you’re running out of food and you throw things together you normally wouldn’t. It’s a fave, it’s good trust me!

My wonderful hubba hubba hubby is making dinner tonight. Have I mentioned how much I love him?? It’s especially appreciated because I totally put my back out the other day, get this, riding the train!

I had to stand for the entire ride in and I’ve had a stiff back before when I’ve had to stand (especially if I’m hefting my laptop back and forth) but this time I was laptop free. I guess it was the fact I was standing on kind of an angle holding my book in one hand and holding on with the other. Skytrain is kind of herky-jerky at the best of times, prolly not a good idea to not be standing in a good position.

I guess I was standing too stiffly and one good jerking movement and OWWWWWW freaking hell!!! It’s amazing how fragile the back can be over something so STUPID! All day long every time I had to get up or down I was all “oooh ooooh owwww” and walked all stiff and kind of waddled. Sean said I walked like Grissom on CSI (brat). I guess more sit ups would help but damn! I’m feeling better now it’s just kind of stiff not sore anymore…whew!

The last couple of days I’ve found myself starting to fade right around 3:00 which doesn’t help as I’m still at work. I’ve felt like a wind-up toy who’s spring has run down. I’ve had to get up and walk around just to get my mind out of the fuzz. I’m wondering if it’s the change in the light, less natural sun more cloudy so the darn office lights are more what I’m seeing… not sure. I hate the end of summer *sigh*.

We had the yearly inspection of the fire /smoke alarms in our condo. Yesterday for a few hours every couple of minutes the fire bells would ring. I can understand the absolute need for this but oh my GOD it’s loud and startling. I missed part of it because they started before I got home. Tom had taped something over the thing that puts the building alarm noise into our place to muffle it some but one of the big red bells is right outside our front door.

When I got home the minute I stepped out of my car I heard the bell ring by the door from the parking garage to the elevator vestibule. I grabbed my stuff and hustled to get past it before it blasted again. I knew it would take a few minutes as it would take the dudes doing it to get to a new suite. I fumbled with my keys to open the door and success.. WAIT! Damn! another one in the vestibule!!! Bolting for the door as fast as I could waddle (sore back yanno..) I made my way up holding one ear with one hand and my grocery bag with the other going “don’t ring don’t ring don’t ring” the whole way up. Damn if the bell didn’t ring the minute I got up to our door?? Ah well I tried! Those bells are PAINFUL!!!

Ah well it’s over for another year.

I leave you with a Kiss….

A Sunday down ‘South’

September 26, 2005

Despite a rather longish line-up down to the border we had a fun day down in Bellingham. Sean particularly enjoyed it as it was his first time going there with us. We did the usual..with a few small alterations. We tried to do the IHOP but it was PACKED, so instead we hit the Denny’s. Not exactly quiet either, we seemed to hit the tail end of the rush period. I dunno but for some reason the people working in these establishments or for that matter frequenting them are kind of annoying. Maybe it’s the small town atmosphere, maybe that makes me a snob but MAN they can be kind of redneck-y. We had this old couple beside us, who started on the left side and them moved DIRECTLY beside us because the lady didn’t like the seats on the booth they were put in. They just moved on their own, not bothering to wait for the server to come by.

They the woman complained about everything, including the fact her hashbrowns weren’t BURNT as she wanted them to be. She also borrowed most of the stuff of our table, but still gave me the stink-eye when I used the salt that was on the edge of their table because ours was covered in someone else’s crusted egg splatter… well pardon me!!!

Sean’s Got milk!

We visited my Mecca as usual. Managed to get a few sweaters worth buying, rather than the sad sad selection they had post back to school the last time we went. Problem was they had also dragged out the rest of the crap they had stored in the back which meant the racks were crammed with Fugly. I wasn’t in the mood for a total scavenger hunt either but I still found a few diamonds among the dirt.

My Take

We hit the bookstore and the mall and just did some scoping, we didn’t really end up buying MUCH except for loading up with the more unique candy they have down there, especially as it’s close to Halloween so there was a good selection. Tom bought some for treats at work and we bought some gummy ‘body parts’ for Chris… yanno bloody fingers, eyeball the usual edible gore.

After all that shopping we decided it was time to do ‘Linner’ (late lunch/early dinner). We of course went to our usual fave ‘Anthony’s’ and had a yummm Caesar salad to start and then Sean and I both had the halibut. Tom decided to try something new in a Lingcod with some type of sauce… he liked it. We of course got the plain rice and not that raisoned gack they serve.

After ‘Linner’ we went for a walk to burn off all that food! It was a perfectly lovely afternoon, not too hot in the sun thanks to a fall breeze. There was hardly a soul walking around either. I guess most of the folks in the area were out on their boats grabbing the last few chances they have for the season.

I was playing Mommarazzi as usual grabbing LOTS of pictures which you can see HERE on Flickr

When I saw our shadows on a small grassy hill I was trying to get everyone to pose like Charlie’s Angels. Tom said the folks in the restaurant were staring and wondering what the hell we were doing. I didn’t even notice (hee-hee)!

Poor Tom has some kind of bug now, poor guy. I can hear him sniffling in the livingroom as I type this. He’s got today and tomorrow off too which is good, it will give him a chance to shake this before he has to go back to work.

Yay found ‘em!
