Well I survived the ICBC experience. I didn’t have to wait TOO long other than arriving a bit early but that was my own doing, and the fact I hate being late to anything.
The claims people I dealt with were very nice and helpful. They said it was a rather straight forward case, other than the fact that the young fella hadn’t called in to report the accident yet (or his Dad) we were placing bets on whether or not he’s even told his Dad it happened. Maybe he thought it would just go away…
Either way they said it’s not my fault in ICBC’s eyes, It will be the other drivers fault of course. I mean I knew it wasn’t my fault but I was worried without witnesses if they could try to screw me a bit. They said just about 100% of the time it’s the person behinds fault as they were following too closely and not paying attention.
They estimated the work at about $700.00. I have a choice to wait until the other guy comes in so they can get the $300.00 from his insurance and waive my deductible or I can go in and get the repairs done, pay it and wait for them to cut me a cheque. I said I may just do the latter one, especially as I am on vacation, it will be a lot more convenient to take care of it when I’m off work. Maybe the dude will come in while we are away and it will be a moot point.
The lady who looked at the initial damage and took my report was amused to see the impression of the guy’s license plate holder in the bumper, said he almost left his license number embedded in it. She was most sympathetic though, especially as it’s such a new car and I was so bummed about it. It’s always worse when it’s something you can’t help.
After I got out of there I went to my Mom’s and checked her place out as she’s still away and won’t be back until mid-August. She was concerned that there was some stuff in the fridge that needed to be thrown away and I also checked her mail to see if there is anything that is due to be paid. Most of her bills are done automatically though and only her home insurance is coming due but after she gets home. Place is nice and neat and secured up tight too so no worries.
AS I was in the neighbourhood I went over to Old Navy and bought some pants. I needed some retail therapy to get over my crappy first day of vacation. It worked though I got some nice pants and at really good deals!
I also tried to get my oil changed. I have a really weird phobia of driving over open pits. Ok I have a lot of weird phobias (car washes are another because they are so enclosed!) but I decided to suck it up and go. Here I was psyching myself up and go figure, MR Lube was out of my filters!! He didn’t understand why I looked to defeated! He said that there will be more coming in on Thursday but that’s the day we are taking off (and we were planning on taking my car because we will share the drive and I’m way more comfortable driving Freddy that Tom’s big boa.. I mean Chrysler… Blahhh, I guess I will have to find their other location and call to make sure they have the darn things in!
Tomorrow is Sean’s big day of molding (Orthodontist molds)It’s supposed to be a short appt… like 30 mins or so. Then we have to wait another month before they do the analysis and give me the estimate for work. I think I have to have the first payment of $400.00 tomorrow which is no big. The big one is when they start work. $1,900.00 ouch!!! Then it’s like $300.00 per month until it’s paid off (24 months) Between me and my Ex we have $5,000 insurance coverage. I think we will be out of pocket about $800.00 a piece which isn’t that bad I guess, or rather it could be worse. Lil Sean is worth it though. I’m just sorry they won’t be on before he goes back to school.. at least the rate this is going anyway!
Linda my Boss said she would let me take the time to take Sean in for this stuff which is great. I can always work from home too as they have such weird appointments (on the day it needs to be done). The good part is after that it’s only once every month or so that he needs to go in for tightening. Eventually he will be able to go after school himself. It’s pretty close to where we live which is great.
Well.. time to get making the Tacos that I’ve been promising forever. I was gonna make them last week, but found the meat that I bought was old because I was too dim to pay attention to the use by date!
