Idle hands are the devil’s plaything

July 30, 2005

BORED BORED BORED BORED BORED.

Bored combined with lazy in fact, which makes me both fidgety and unproductive. I’ve been amusing myself in PaintShop altering photos heehee, that and I started going through my work emails and answering those I can to get them caught up so when I go back to work on Tuesday I won’t spend the entire day reading emails. I’m still in vacation mode though, not letting anything aggravate me until it absolutely must!

Ok I also have to say that the new people moving in to our building today and driving me insane. It’s been blinkin hot here so I have the windows open. These people have been moving since oh early afternoon and are STILL out there making noise at 11:00 pm. Doors slamming, kids shrieking, what sounds like a shopping cart rattling over the bricks and then banging into the door. God help us if they are in a suite near us!!! Assholes don’t have any consideration for anyone else apparently.
(can ya tell I’m bitchy today?)As far as I know there are rules about moving, and ensuring that you aren’t still doing it at this hour. They are lucky it’s not a work night or there would be a crazy woman with frizzed out sticky-uppy hair barreling into the lobby right about now.

Job hunting and a new toy

July 29, 2005

“This growing up thing sucks”….a direct quote from my first born Son. He’s looking for his first job and is finding the process a bit overwhelming.

I feel for him but it’s something we all have to face eventually, this looming of responsibility. I remember not long ago he used to say how he longed to be out of school and how much easier I had it as it was all over for me. How ‘lucky’ I was to have a job so at least I was paid for all my efforts. Oh how the worm has turned!

I have to keep at him, he had it easy since he completed school. I gave him some down time to decompress from school, a luxury I myself was not afforded. Now it’s grindstone time. The party is over. Real world time Kiddo…

The GOOD news is he received official word today that he did indeed graduate. The only course in question (that he had a year end exam for) was his Communications class as the exam would be 1/3 of the year’s results. He got an award for that class so he wasn’t really too concerned but there was this niggling worry there.

I’m mean. When I woke him this morning I told him that I needed to TALK to him immediately, that we got a letter from the school about his grades. He came out looking all flustered until I let him off the hook and told him that he had met the requirements to Graduate and congratulated him with a hug. He looked so relieved, I probably scared a year off his life, bad me!! He DID get a fresh Timmy-Ho’s coffee though (we had just come back from a coffee run because Tom had forgotten to pick up the ground coffee the he promised from the store AGAIN yesterday, right Hon??)

We drove around handing in some job apps and then grabbed lunch at the old Ricky’s restaurant near where we used to live as a Grad celebration treat. Tom had to miss cos he was working (sorry Honey).

We finally picked up Chris’ Grad present, his mini amp. Tom had pointed out this morning how because we only JUST heard that he officially graduated that we aren’t technically ‘late’ for the present. Chris laughed and said he had a point. We went to R&R Music and we were looking at a Peavey Mini Amp. The dude at the store said that the Ibanez was better for only another few bucks. We went with it after he played me the difference between the two. The non distorted sound was so much nicer on the Ibanez that I was sold. I don’t know a heck of a lot about the thingie-bobs and twirly dealies he was talking to me about. I kept pointing out the fact it was Chris not me that he needed to tell about that crap. Chris pointed out since I was the holder of the purse, the sales pitch was directed at me. Eh.. whatever, it wasn’t super expensive and it sounds good. The Boy is happy, so I’m happy. Spoiled brat!! He’s good though, and it’s all self taught. He wants to take lessons in his spare time if he has some money left over from all that dating he wants to do =P

Quest… for Wind

July 28, 2005

You would think it would be easier to find a small clip on personal type fan. Ok, granted Summer is partly over but considering we didn’t get anywhere NEAR hot temps until recently, fans weren’t exactly flying off the shelves people! I figured it would be a cake-walk, how wrong I was.

Sean informed us this morning that his small clip on fan that he likes to have blowing on his face 365 days a year was making a bzz bzzz sound. Ok, not good!! Sooo the plan was to go out and get a new one. Chris’ had died a while back but he’d been using a big free standing one in the meantime and could live with that.

Sean and I went on our quest this afternoon and hit up two stores (Walmart, Superstore) with no results. Wasn’t a totally wasted trip though, Sean found what he wants for Xmas… now he’s obsessing about Xmas. That’s our Boy.

Finally the third time was indeed the charm, in London Drugs we found the damn fans and there was much rejoicing.

Fan-tastic!

Fan-antical

An another subject, the dude that hit me hasn’t freakin put in a claim to the insurance company. They called him and he SAID he was going to go in, but when I called and checked the other day he still hadn’t come in. The agent said they will give him until the end of this week and then automatically open a claim against the insurance on the vehicle he was driving and give me new papers so I can get the car repaired with no deductible to pay up front.

My theory is he hasn’t told his Dad yet. Maybe he still thinks it will go away, not sure and don’t care really, I just want Freddy fixed. I hate irresponsible people. There is no excuse now, he knows he has to do it. I wonder if there is any fine for not doing it, if not there should be. It’s inconveniencing me and causing ICBC more work to keep following up on him… blah.

Well five more days left and then I’m back to the grind. I am TRYING not to think about it though!! Tom of course is already back at work. In fact he’s working lates tonight all the way through until Sunday. The good part is that because I’m still off I DO actually get to see his face, unlike the time leading up to vacation. It’s because someone got sick at work and as there are other people off on vacation or sick leave they did some schedule shuffling. It sucks our schedules aren’t more in sync, eh….whatchagonnadoo?

Stockard Channing

July 28, 2005

Tom is a long term ‘Wing-Nut’ aka The West Wing fan. He got me watching it too.. I think I started at some point at the end of season three, but although I like the show and the characters are good (or at least were good, the show was declining a wee bit for me) Tom, well he quotes stuff from the show, could probably give you the complete and total history of each character, and points out subtle stuff that only the total West Wing geek would know. I love my geek.

Anyway Tom and I each have a list of favourite Celebs. His list he calls the ‘Boing’ list or those women that to him have some variety of ‘Boing factor’ as I don’t have anything that boings, I can’t really call my list that but you get the picture.

Tom’s list is, shall we say …. eclectic. I guess some could argue mine is too, it runs the gamut from craggy to somewhat pretty-boyish but one of the features on his list, and probably the main one is Stockard Channing. Not only is she on his favourite show, but she has a special ’something’ to him.

I’ve a firm believer in ‘just because’ gifts. They can be fun or romantic, but are purchased not with an occasion in mind, rather the person in mind. I wanted to get him something ‘Stockardish’ for a while but hadn’t really found what I needed until I found this dude who sells autograph pictures. He has lots of different kinds, and Stockard probably isn’t the hottest seller in the world, although I’m sure she’s got her following, she isn’t oh I dunno, the Angelina Jolie or whatever, whoever the current hot get would be.

Anyway, I picked up Stockard’s autograph for him on one of the more official West Wing type photos. He got a kick out of it and she’s sitting in a nice frame which we will hang up in the ‘Office’ for him. I would seriously love to be able to get him something PERSONAL from her to him but that would probably take a miracle! Uhhh Stockard? Umm I have a favour to ask…. heehee

Anyway Here are the pics I took while he opened his gift. He’s such a ham. He plays along with me. I love you Honey! xoxox

A gift? For Moi?

Hmmm a gift? For Me??

Hmmm wonder what I got?

Hasn’t looked yet, What could it be?

Discovery (Tom loves Stockard Channing) of an autographed picture

Tom sees his gift

Errr umm excuse me I need a moment

Errr ummm, “Excuse me I need a moment”

Bye bye Honey, I must be alone with Stockard

“Bye Honey!”

Hahaha

Tom? Ummm Yooohooo Tom?

The trip home

July 26, 2005

We didn’t worry about time on the trip home, we were in no great hurry. This was going to be a nice leisurely day. We breakfasted and then packed up our bags and checked out. The hotel screwed up our bill and charged us twice for the tour.. *sigh* after that was straightened out we took off.

We decided to stop by the Little Straw Winery and pick up a few bottles of their wine. This stuff was going to be hard to find back home, Mission Hill, Quail’s Gate, those are easy finds. We picked up a couple of bottles of Tapestry and a bottle of the Riesling.

Two bottles of Tapestry and one bottle of Riesling

We figured we would just keep driving and then have dinner at home. We got the thirsties and a slight case of the Munchies in Merritt so we stopped at Rotten Ronnies for a light snack and a couple of Sodas and then hit the highway again.

We were about 20 mins outside of Hope driving on this really nice clear sunny day then all of a sudden we see smoke ahead and tail lights. A big accident had JUST happened right in front of where we were. We didn’t see it happen but we were a few cars back and saw the smoke. This brought traffic to a complete standstill. People started running towards the cars, some carrying first aid kits. Neither of us is trained in that kind of stuff and the last thing that injured people need is a bunch of looky-loos who have no clue what they were doing so we stayed out of the way. Someone coming the other way advised us that we should just turn around as there was yet another accident down the highway and it was closed there too..

We were near a turn around so thanks to the rubber neckers coming the other way, we managed to get back on the highway heading back to Hope. On our way we finally saw some Police cars heading towards the accident. As it’s in the middle of nowhere they had a bit of traveling to get there. We stopped for ice cream in Hope and then bought a map to find out how to get to where the old highway is. We found it before most people did thank goodness and we were back on our way, albeit slowly. It took us a couple of hours longer to get home than we counted on but it was SURE NICE to get there.

We watched the news that night and were glad to see that there were no fatalities in the accident that happened that we came across. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the other accident that was further on. I don’t understand how these things should happen as it was a clear sunny day where you can see for miles. It’s always due to people doing stupid things, there were so many people tail-gating and racing by us on the drive both ways. It’s so not worth it people!!

We picked up the cats the next day. They were MISERABLE there at the Vets apparently. Cinny howled the whole way home. She is still hoarse, she sounds like a goose right now. They both were having bad dreams the whole evening, twitching crying out when they woke up. They explored the entire house the minute they got home. They are still all weirded out, poor lil suckers. Man are they CLINGY!!!
